GOLDEN DAY HAS BETDAQ SILVER BETS AT 42.0 AND 25.0: All eyes on Ireland today with some hot stuff on show as Golden Silver goes for his Hilly Way hat-trick at Cork and a super seven line up for the John Durkan at Punchestown. But Shamrock finds a few euros for some Betdaq outsiders at 42.0 and 25.0 morning offers.

CORK: It should be plain sailing for Golden Silver and Emmet Mullins as the eight-times Grade winning gelding goes for a Hilly Way hat-trick at Cork (1.50).

Golden Silver is unbackable except for Daq mixed multiples but I can get 14 times his win return for a place on 25-1 shot Osirixamix, a winner on today’s card last season.

Stayers Becauseicouldntsee and Hughies Grey need to go round again so I think second place is as safe for ‘Ozzy’ as the winner’s berth is booked for Golden Silver.

Cork has two cracking Grade 3 novice events, both swerved by Willie Mullins and, unusually, each with different stables lining up.

Mullins has sent Laganbank to Punchestown to avoid Best Served Cold (1.20), who lowered his colours at Galway, and is on a hat-trick mission here.

But this is a tough task, giving 8lb to another treble-chance gelding, the grey Corbally Ghost, and against my bet at a very decent 5.8 as I write, Farrells Fancy.

Farrells Fancy ran up against the super-impressive Cheltenham festival hope, Sword Of Destiny, last time out and had earlier had Saturday’s so-unlucky Sea Of Thunder back in third when winning at Tipperary in October.

The novice chase (2.20) should go to Shop DJ on form, though the ground is a worry: it was good when she beat Our Victoria at Thurles in October and Golden Sunbird at Punchestown earlier in the year.

Knockfierna was unlucky not to catch Golden Sunbird at Limerick a month back, and is within a tenth of a point of Shop DJ in the market as I write. Reads like a humdinger.

PUNCHESTOWN: Though Laganbank (1.05) steers clear of Best Served Cold, he is head to head again with his Navan conqueror, Dylan Ross, yet still gives him weight under his double penalty.

The Oscar gelding Lord Windermere has a good home reputation and won a fair maiden on today’s type of ground, so could well be the one to chase home Dylan Ross.

After Tony McCoy dumped the winner, Quantitativeasing, for Sunnyhill Boy (pulled up) on Saturday, we are wary to read too much into Barry Geraghty’s desertion of Joncol in favour of Tranquil Sea and he clearly chose to attempt back-to-back John Durkans on Edward O’Grady’s nine-year-old.

It used to be a regular feat (Straight Fort 1971-2), Fort Fox (1976-7) and Jack Of Trumps (1978-9, incidentally for O’Grady) but only Merry Gale (1994-5) has scored twice running since then.

Rubi Light’s spectacular jumping had subsequent Tingle Creek winner, Sizing Europe, in trouble at Gowran before ‘Rubi’ hit the last, though you have to remember it was Sizing Europe’s first run since May.

Tranquil Sea is the opposite of spectacular but gets the job done and the seven times winner at today’s trip will relish the ground.

The stats say that the Durkan Day Handicap (1.35) is always won by a horse aged five or six, carrying 10st 12lb or less. I’ll take the hint for massive Betdaq outsider Sidi Ifni (42.0 as I write) but will need an old punt on the jolly: That’ll Do Me on a great day’s Irish racing.

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Dylan Ross (1.05 Punchestown)
EACH WAY: Sidi Ifni (saver That’ll Do Me, 1.35 Punchestown) and Osirixamix (1.50 Cork)
DAQ YANKEE: Dylan Ross (1.05 Punchestown), Farrells Fancy (1.20 Cork), Golden Silver (1.50 Cork) and Tranquil Sea (2.05 Punchestown
