12.0, 18.0 AND 48.0 OUTSIDERS ARE ‘TOO BIG’ AT NAVAN: Shamrock has five horses for mixed trebles at Navan today but, equally, reckons outsiders at 12.0, 18.0 and 48.0 have decent qualifications and their offers are too big.

1.00 Navan The bigger the field the bigger the certainty, they say; but can you take the odds on Terminal?

Daq Multiples will rescue me from that dilemma. Meanwhile, every one of the 20 other horses in the race is a bigger offer for a place than Terminal is for the win.

I choose 12.0 Shannon Spirit, the experienced horse in the field, having his first run for Henry De Bromhead, who is currently three wins from five.

1.30 Navan A horse with the toe to run in the Supreme Novices Hurdle and the stamina to be entered for the World Hurdle. We haven’t see the best of So Young.

2.00 Navan Denis Hogan’s last two chase runners have just won at Naas and Punchestown a week or so after Norah Starr ran second at Cork.

It could be the mare’s turn here, though there are those with other ideas: Tommy Treacy will be looking to go one better on Cantrell (48.0 this morning on the Daq), second in an enormous field for this last year off the same mark; and Baby Whizz is back down in grade to the level of his Wexford win in November.

2.30 Navan Who’s got the guts for this maiden slog over nearly 3m? Best outsider is Tommy Treacy again on Dead End (18.0 this morning); she’s out of a Le Moss mare and will be happy to go round again.

But the issue should be settled between Are Ya Right Chief (Flemensfirth out of a Presenting mare) and Knockgraffon King. I’ll take the Mullins-Walsh combo, with Dead End each way.

3.00 Navan Here’s Willie and Ruby again, with Bagber holding sway over the ‘bridesmaid’ Spanish Auriga.

3.30 Navan (Foxrock Chase) A Troytown winner, Jack The Bus (2010), and a Troytown loser (2011), Wicklow Lad, could fight out the finish but it’s a hard race to fathom.

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Are Ya Right Chief (2.30 Navan)
