‘LITTLE CLASSIC’ AT FAIRYHOUSE TODAY: Shamrock’s yankee went 1132 on Saturday and his best outsider, Fourth Class (3rd 12-1), also managed only a place at Naas. Recent naps results: 212111122B2411P13. Today he previews ‘a little classic’ of a chase at Fairyhouse.
Only five runners but a little classic. However, be warned that recent winners of the Normans Grove Chase (1.50 Fairyhouse) had already won a Grade 1 or a Grade 2 in all-aged company.
That separates out Tranquil Sea, like gold dust in a bag of flour. The O’Grady top weight is a bit like Somersby: seemingly not too solid; hasn’t really lived up to the promise. But his day could be today.
He’s won a John Durkan here, and last time he was dropped back to 16-17 furlongs, he absolutely hacked up.
Noble Prince has gradually overhauled him on official figures and, since his Grade 1 and 2 defeats were by Big Zeb, he can hardly be faulted as one on the up. Yet his only win around today’s trip was a three-horse race, beating nothing.
Blazing Tempo can’t be left out of it, as the Mullins yard goes for a hat-trick in the race, but he, too, is down in trip, and this is surely a race of class and tactics, though Saludos, if front-running, could make it a true test.
If Tranquil Sea fails him, Edward O’Grady should get e11,000 to compensate via Shot From The Hip. Needs to sharpen up his jumping but not a lot to beat here.
Similarly, if Willie Mullins is without a winner, he can end the day with the expenses intact – and some – from Champagne Fever (4.00).
