PISTOL-PACKING NINA GOES FOR A REPEAT AT 19.5: Shamrock fancies a repeat in the hunters chase at Leopardstown but will it be last year’s winning horse, On The Fringe, or last year’s winning rider, Nina Carberry, who switches to a 19.5 dark horse, Parsons Pistol?
Beta back Lucky Jim! With all eyes on the Cheltenham trials, has anything slipped under the radar in a Leopardstown handicap today? For instance, I reckon those lucky Potts people won’t want to go home without a pot.
Jim Dreaper saddles a rare hurdle runner – he’s only had four at Leopardstown in five years – called Cavite Beta (3.10), a decent price because he hasn’t run for 135 days.
But that run was a win, also after a long absence. So I reckon we’d Beta have a bit on at 8.6 on Betdaq this morning.
While the big races are tricky debates between two or three horses, there are strong arguments when it comes to the hunters’ chase.
The former Punchestown champion hunter, On The Fringe (4.20), has always been plotted for this after winning it under Nina Carberry last year.
J T McNamara takes over today and you have to have an each-way bet on Parsons Pistol, as Nina switches to a once decent Noel Meade chaser who quietly made his comeback from a long absence in a Point only last weekend: 19.5 will do for me.
When all is said and done, searching for alternatives, I shall stand by our master trainer, Willie Mullins, and bet that his trio, Ut De Sivola (1.05), Sous Les Cieux (2.10) and Quel Esprit (3.45), do the business as expected.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Ut De Sivola (1.05 Leopardstown)
NEXT BEST: Quel Esprit (3.45 Leopardstown)
OUTSIDERS: Cavite Beta (3.10 Leopardstown), Parsons Pistol (4.20 Leopardstown)
DAQ YANKEE: Ut De Sivola (1.05 Leopardstown), Sous Les Cieux (2.10 Leopardstown), Quel Esprit (3.45 Leopardstown), On The Fringe (4.20 Leopardstown)
