THE GUINEAS WINNER AND BACK-TO-BACK NAPS: As well as a win bet on English 2,000 Guineas scorer, Camelot, Shamrock landed his nap, See Double You (WON 5-2), following Van Ellis (WON 1-3) on Friday.

Joseph O’Brien can win again today and I don’t mean Maybe. I’m talking about Maarek (3.50 Newmarket) in the big-field sprint, seemingly ideally drawn in the high stall 24 and bang in form.

Of course, Maybe (3.15) has a fabulous chance of a Ballydoyle double in the English Guineas, after Camelot’s last-gasp 2,000 yesterday.

But I just wonder: Homecoming Queen (in two) is almost certain to set the pace on the far side, and Jim Bolger’s Alla Speranza (in 1, and glad to have a lead) might be the beneficiary. Has improved a furlong at home.

With La Collina (in eight) and Maybe (in nine), it all suggest a different result from yesterday’s high stalls, in which we are not represented today. I shall back Alla Speranza win and place and ‘cheat’ by putting Maybe in my Daq Multiples.

Colonel Mak and The Confessor can tow the low numbers in the sprint but Cheveton and Mirza, in 12 and 18, leading the middle-to-stands side, are likely to last longer, as Colonel Mak and The Confessor are both running off their highest ever marks.

Gowran Park: Much as I’d love to see Chrysanthemum (3.30) bloom again, the verdict has gone 3-3 between three-year-olds and older fillies in this McCalmont Memorial and the progressive second-season animal today is from the same stable.

I reach for the exotic BETDAQ bets again, and have an old punt win and place Tannery (17.0 this morning) and put Chrysanthemum in the Daq Multiples.

Sligo: I opposed Clondaw Warrior the other day, didn’t I! Well, a man must learn from his mistakes and back the horse fourth to him in his previous win at Cheltenham: Alexandr Nevsky (2.40).

Pickapocketortwo (4.50) has ‘nap’ written all over it, since Willie Mullins has managed to find him a race on a sound surface, while the rest of the country – and England – has been sinking like Venice.

SHAMROCK’S BETS
NAP: Pickapocketortwo (4.50 Sligo)
EACH WAY: Alla Speranza (3.15 Newmarket), Tannery (3.30 Gowran Park).
DAQ MULTIPLES: mixed trebles Alexandr Nevsky (2.40), Maybe (3.15 Newmarket), Chrysanthemum (3.30 Gowran Park), Maarek (3.50 Newmarket), Pickapocketortwo (4.50 Sligo)
