FOUR WINNING NAPS THIS WEEK: Shamrock crowned a great Royal Ascot week by landing his FOURTH winning NAP of the week with Simenon WON 11/4 in the closing race. His other naps were So You Think (NAP, Weds) WON 4/5, Truthwillsetufree (NAP, Tues) WON 6/4 and Savida (NAP, Mon) WON 9/4. The recent naps ‘form figures’ now reads: 1101112022101110110103010111001
WELL DONE WILLIE: What a great effort from Willie Mullins to train Simenon to land TWO Royal Ascot races – and both in great style. It was one of many sub plots to the most fantastic week at Royal Ascot which just about had the lot. Frankel, Black Caviar, a winner for the Queen, a top jockey of the week challenge that went to the wire and a few Irish trained winners to boot. Superb stuff.
We switch from the flat at Royal Ascot to the jumpers at Gowran Park this afternoon and there are some interesting maiden hurdles on the card with several short price favourites.
Park Ranger is a horse I want to take on in the 4.15. He has twice been beaten at odds on in similar events and was a faller last time out at Listowel when he want off at 1/4 in the market. He was on terms (but by no means guaranteed to win) before coming to grief two out in what didn’t look a strong contest – the winner was a well beaten sixth of seven last time out.
In a rare move my NAP of the day is a lay of Park Ranger.
Gordon Elliott has the front two in the market in the opener and Discoteca is narrowly preferred and should complete the hat-trick.
The Willie Mullins trained Zuzka attempts a hat-trick in the next race at 2.45 but is an unknown quantity on this ground – so be careful.
