LOOK OUT AT GALWAY TOMORROW: Shamrock’s getting geared up for the Galway Festival, which starts tomorrow, but finds that the stats for the Galway Plate narrow the field down to just two, as the handicap stands today.

Get ready for Galway: The great Ballybrit festival starts tomorrow with the going good and the good getting going. Over 200,000 will see seven days of top-class sport.

Irish playwright John B Keane said: The Galway races are a state of mind.’ Well I shall be stating my mind, once I get to grips with the 53 left in Wednesday’s Galway Plate!

Captain Cee Bee is holding up the big-race card with 11st 10lb, pushing half the field – 27 of them – out of the handicap, and the one that’s holding up the market, Bahrain Storm, is actually outside the limit for the race, as it stands.

I’d bet on him getting in but not on him winning. If you are combing the field now, the stats tell you to concentrate on horses ages seven to nine, from 10st 5lb to 10st 13lb.

Incredibly, there are only two as the handicap stands: Paul Flynn’s Archie Boy and the English raider, Qulinton, penalised 12lb for winning the Summer Plate at Market Rasen recently.

I’m going to have a greedy week. I shall be pairing outsiders at Galway and Goodwood, attempting across-the-card, across-the-Irish-Sea doubles on two of the seasons fabulous festivals. See you in Bermuda afterwards!
