SHAMROCK SHOPS FOR VALUE: Shamrock has been struggling with the English form after four winning naps in a row. But his beloved Irish racing is back today and he has found the value in the shop!
It’s déjà vu day at Clonmel. Three winners on last year’s corresponding card are back to try and do the double… a treble of doubles, I should say!
Jack’s Island (1.25) has changed stables since but has as good a chance as any, though his strike rate is not good: 7.0 on Betdaq covers a few of the ‘ifs and buts’.
The two others are highflyers, Graded-race players, Tranquil Sea (2.25) and Blazing Tempo (2.55), with Tranquil Sea, my nap, edging even money this morning. He’ll surely start odds on.
He was tips on when winning this last year, the Punchestown Chase winner easing to the front two out and scoring by a comfortable couple of lengths.
The race will be interesting to gauge any further improvement in Tharawaat, who stepped out of novice class to win a decent Galway handicap.
That’s Blazing Tempo territory. He won the Galway Plate but his fourth in the Kerry National, presumably causing him to run flat afterwards last Saturday, has me worrying that he’s a bit one paced for this now.
Where I feel Tranquil Sea has the class over the upstart, Tharawaat, I wonder if Tempo can take the improver Shop DJ at a difference of nearly a stone.
I’m not the only one to think that way, with Shop DJ edging favouritism this morning at the moment of writing: 3.4 to Tempo’s 3.5, with For Bill tight in at 3.8. For me, Shop DJ is still value at the weights.
