MOUSE GOES TO WAR AGAIN: Mouse Morris, who trained their Gold Cup winner, War Of Attrition, and Noel Meade could land a double for Gigginstown House at Thurles this afternoon.

Gigginstown goes to town. Ever since War Of Attrition won the 2006 Cheltenham Gold Cup, Gigginstown House has been the talk of Irish racing.

At least a double, possibly a treble, is on the Thurles card for them today, launched by the affable Mouse Morris who, of course, saddled War Of Attrition.

Mouse has Davy Russell on his side to improve Rathlin (12.40) from his chasing debut at Punchestown. This Kayf Tara gelding was Grade-2 level over hurdles.

Gigginstown could then land the maiden hurdle (1.45), courtesy of either Charles Byrnes’ Trifolium – he needs to brush up his jumping – or Folsom Blue, though claiming off this one suggests he’s the House second string.

Owners-table rival, J P McManus, has Mouse Morris batting for him this time, with Bruff, and is also represented by Jack The Ref.

Newcomers Alubari (for Gordon Elliott) and Turban (Mullins-Walsh), and hopes of improvement from Heaney, Still Point and King Vuvuzela make this a cracking contest.

I’ll be taking the winner out to dine on later in the season. Alpine Eagle, 2008, four more wins) and Kilmury (2009, three more) were horses to follow from this race.

But Gigginstown’s banker of the day is surely the Noel Meade handled Ipsos Du Berlais (2.45), who sauntered home on his hurdles debut after winning a Galway bumper 10 lengths in similar style.

Pickapocketortwo now tries a midway distance after running second over 2m 4f and again over 3m; maybe he’s just hard to win with.
