6-1 WINNER AND 5-2 NAP IN TWO OUT OF TWO: Two winners and no losers: that was Shamrock’s score at Limerick yesterday through Page Turner (nap WON 5-2) and Lisrose (WON 6-1). His naps sequence is now 12111122B2411P131101, six successes out of the last eight finishers.

Spoilt for choice today with the excellent card at Gowran Park where the ground is soft and we’ll look briefly at each race on the card.

1:05 P.J.Foley Memorial Hurdle The top two on the card are readily opposed as this will surely go to one of the unexposed horses. In Bloom won at her first attempt over jumps having failed in eight starts on the flat whilst Arnaud won well at Limerick having showed a glimmer of ability in one start on the flat. However, the market points towards Gorgeous Sixty who was much better class on the flat and the French import can start the meeting well for Willie Mullins.

1:35 John Mulhern Galmoy Hurdle (Grade 2) An absolute cracker of a match between Voler Le Vedette and Zaidpour in which both put their Cheltenham credentials on the line. Voler La Vedette may prove too good today. She was hugely impressive when winning the Christmas Hurdle at Leopardstown beating Mourad (confirming the form of her previous Grade 1 success at Fairyhouse) whereas Zaidpour had little to beat when winning his Grade 2 at Navan. Zaidpour remains a horse with a lot of potential but on the balance of what we have seen Voler La Vedette already has top class form in the book.

2:05 Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle If you ignore Golanbrook’s last run he’d be a lot shorter here. And there are good reasons for ignoring – he was stepped up in distance at Punchestown and returns to this trip which is more suitable. He was a winner here at Gowran in December battling on in a close finish to win a maiden with 25 lengths back to the third.

2:35 Four Star Langton House Hotel Maiden Hurdle Plenty of runners but very few in with a chance. Should be another for Mullins with Primroseandblue who seemingly just has to repeat course and distance form last time to go in again. Inish Island brings fair form and ensures we’ll get a price about the Mullins charge.

3:05 Goffs Thyestes Handicap Chase (Grade A) As tough as ever to unravel with Willie Mullins unleashing a quartet of runners and last year’s winning trainer Dessie Hughes running Rivage D’Or which is prominent in the betting despite a poor run last time out.

Adams Island looks sensible win and place. Barry Geraghty rode him for the first time at Leopardstown last time out when third in a handicap hurdle which was a decent prep race for this. His jumping remains slightly suspect but you get the feeling there might be a good win to be had with this horse granted a clear round and Geraghty’s experience is a huge asset.

3:35 Netwatch Handicap Chase Four Chimneys ran well at Navan and is a small bet for me.

4:05 Nugent Spirit 25 Horsebox Flat Race Mullins should book-end the card with Morning Royalty.
