THURLES GAMBLE OUSTS MULLINS FAVOURITE: Shamrock, showing a current naps sequence of 11P111013, today joins in the gamble that has unseated a Willie Mullins favourite at Thurles.
Lamb is this morning’s market lion. Champion trainer Willie Mullins had six consecutive paper favourites at Thurles today, ridden by Ruby Walsh and Philip Mullins.
But an early-doors move for Lamb or Cod has seen Eugene O’Sullivan’s gelding leapfrog to the front of the market, down to 2.77 as I write, with the Mullins-Walsh topweight, Hammersmith, easy to back at 4.3, as I write.
Lamb Or Cod – an Old Vic – ran up to the talented Argocat over today’s Thurles course and distance in January. Lamb Or Cod was giving the four-and-a-half lengths winner 13lb that last day, where he now receives 9lb from Hammersmith.
The day of Mullins attempt to devour six prizes opens, appropriately, with Raptor (1.30) in a heat where four horses in the middle weights are too old for a race of this distance, and Bally View and Quarryvale are too low in the ratings.
I think Elysian Rock (34.0 on Betdaq this morning) can bounce back for Mouse Morris as a live outsider after two comeback runs.
The chase beginner Gagewell Flyer (2.00 is down in the land of make-believe here: unless he makes a mistake, only the leprechauns could change the result; the opposition is poor for a one-time festival contender.
I shall not Dare To Doubt (2.35) but I shall nap against Hammersmith and Perfect Gentleman’s giving weight all round worries me, though he was backed like a good thing in his bumper and is Neptune material for Cheltenham.
Go All The Way is giving him a close run in the Betdaq market and the 8lb difference persuades me: no bet. But my immediate response (4.15) to Immediate Response is immediate: let off lightly by the handicapper.
