FIVE NAPS OUT OF SEVEN: Shamrock, who landed 30 naps in sequences earlier in the year, is on the rampage again, with his fifth winning best bet in the last week – Oscar Hill (WON 5-4) yesterday – bringing his current naps form to 1121011. He’s also ahead of the game at Cheltenham, having taken 16.5 Sir Des Champs (down to 7.6 and 8.0 yesterday and this morning 9.0) for the Jewson.

My current naps sequence 1121011 reads better than the form figures of Beef To The Heels 742222 in the opener at Clonmel and at around 1.9 the natural tendency is to press the lay button. However, when you delve deeper into the race you soon realise this is his for the taking.

He hasn’t been doing a lot wrong in his races and has his easiest opportunity to pick up a much deserved first win here.  There was a lot to like about the way he chased home the odds on Maller Tree at Navan last time out. He travelled and jumped well throughout the race and just ran into a decent sort.

Quaquo De Flotte is the biggest danger but even the Mullins/Walsh team might not be able to get this one home. He was beaten an awfully long way when favourite at Down Royal last time out over this trip and whilst the better ground may be to his liking there is the lingering suggestion that even two and a half miles might be too short for this one to show his best form which may come over three miles.

In the final flat race on the card Five Point Plan showed enough promise at Leopardstown on debut to suggest a race like this is more than within his grasp before moving onto the obstacles.
