ANOTHER WINNING NAP: Shamrock landed another winning nap on Wednesday with Amron Lad (WON 4-9). The late withdrawal of Holywell had a big impact on the starting price. The next best was beaten a neck by a 20/1 debutant after Shamrock correctly forecast the 5/4 favourite Viola da Gamba was woth opposing.
Cork stage a mid-afternoon card and in the opener at 3.15 if ever there was a horse to look to take on it’s Tennis Cap. He has become a layers dream finishing third in all of his last three starts at 11/8 FAV, 6/4 FAV and last time out at Navan EVENS FAV. It was his latest start that seemed particularly disappointing as he travelled well but found zilch and was beaten fairly and squarely.
He is sure to go off favourite today and this looks his weakest assignment to date but with his CV I like to try and find a place alternative which will still allow us to win if his class rather than attitude carries him home.
We are getting the same odds about Mystic Desir on the BETDAQ place market as Tennis Cap on the win market and this looks more tempting. In all fairness, Mystic Desir has a similarish profile to the favourite in that he started his career well but hasn’t seemed to have progressed. However, in his case there is a valid reason why we might see an improvement today and that’s because he’s stepped back in distance.
