PUNCHESTOWN: This afternoon’s meeting at Punchestown goes ahead after the track passed a morning inspection. The going is heavy for a card which features three Grade Three contests.

Good news that Punchestown goes ahead and in the opening Grabel Mares Hurdle at 1.45 all eyes will be on the Willie Mullins trained Tarla who is around 1.76 on BETDAQ.

Her hurdling form so far is good – but I’m not sure I want to get involved at odds-on today as she hasn’t been seen since flopping on the flat at Listowel where she was sent off at 6/4 in a 1m 6f contest but pulled up on heavy ground by Patrick Mullins.

Given the ground will be hugely testing today there must be a concern about her ability on bottomless ground and I’m hitting the lay button AND the place lay button. There’s little downside on the place lay (around 1.15) particularly with my main reservation about her being ground related which could see her flop completely.

Trifolium makes his seasonal reappearance in the 2.15 and should prove hard to beat. He has winning form on heavy ground and is much better class than his rivals here.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Trifolium (2.15 Punchestown)
LAY: Tarla (1.45 Punchestown)
PLACE LAY: Tarla (1.45 Punchestown)
