SHAMROCK’S NAP JUST RUNS AND RUNS: Shamrock yesterday landed his fifth winning nap from the last six to complete the course, with Cucumber Run (WON 6-4). His naps sequence is 212111122B2411P1311. Today there is no Irish racing, so he checks out Irish-bred runners in England.
It’s an all-weather dominated day on Tuesday with Southwell and Kempton staging seven race cards. Hopefully, it won’t be too long before we get another all-weather circuit in Ireland as there certainly appears a demand for it at this time of the year judging by how well subscribed the Dundalk races are.
I’d welcome a track as quirky as Southwell as well – because Southwell is the only all-weather surface on the Fibresand and it lends itself to track specialists. It’s often the case that horses that go well on Polytrack come unstuck here and vice versa. Just as on turf racing some horses can come with heavy and firm – most can’t and that gives us punters an edge.
Irish-bred runners dominate the opener at 1.20 and to try and preserve my naps sequence Derivatives would seem an obvious choice however this one has no experience of Southwell and at around 1.55 on BETDAQ that is just too short to take a chance on based on my comments above. That said market rival Magilini is also trying the Fibreasand for the first time but I’m leaving the odds-on favourite alone here as John Gosden’s runner is too short especially coming here on the back of a slightly tame effort at Kempton last time out.
In the next race at 1.50 Imprimis Tagula is a different proposition and at around 4.8 tempts me as the day’s nap. The Irish-bred runner has won at this course eight times and although he was without a win last year he looks on a decent handicap mark at present and can win this after a break. Natasha Eaton takes off a handy 7lb.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Imprimis Tagula (Southwell 1.50)
NEXT BEST: Vitznau (Southwell 3.20)
