WICKED 7-2 WINNER AND FIVE NAPS UP OUT OF SIX: Shamrock was glad to grab some decent odds with what he called the ‘eye-catching’ Wicked Spirit (WON 7-2) at Wolverhampton, following on his fifth winning nap out of six: Fluctuate (WON 1-8) paid only loose change at SP; much better in the morning on Betdaq, of course.
A New Story hits the century today. The handicap hurdle (5.55) at Ballinrobe is the 100th racecourse appearance for the 2010 Cheltenham Festival cross-country winner.
But my eye lighted on steadily-improving Mullaghwillin Boy, less than half A New Story’s age and with Ruby Walsh booked: 6.4 on BETDAQ this morning.
Distant Memories (5.25) looks a cut above the opposition in the conditions hurdle, having run so well in the Supreme Novices’ at Cheltenham, but he needs to find cover in such a small field.
Similarly Dancers Dilemma (8.25), a rare runner at this meeting for Dermot Weld, seems a stand-out, based on his running up to a subsequent placer at the same Festival.
Snag with that one is that Willie Mullins, who is two out of three in this race, saddles Wrong Way Corrigan, brother to Bishopsfurze, and Willie beat the favourite last season.
So I’m going to nap Passage Vendome (4.55) on the grounds that it’s a modest field, the next two in the market are bridesmaids, placed without winning, and that Emmet Mullins will be mighty keen to redeem his run on this horse the last day.
Passage Vendome was too far out of his ground to catch the winner at Tramore last month but, travelling well, got within a couple of lengths and should confirm his progress now.
