PLACE LAY: We were right to oppose the favourite in the final race at Tipperary on Tuesday although the NAP didn’t win. Local Celebrity was out of the frame in fourth and could be laid on the place market at around 1.7 pre-race on BETDAQ.

NAVAN: Big fields are the order of the day. Shamrock whittles the card down to find the best bet of the day.

DAQMAN often talks about a double whammy. Well we got a single whammy yesterday – if such a thing exists!

The thinking was right – taking on the favourite in the place market at around 1.7 and we successfully got that one out of the frame but I got greedy and suggested a nap in the same race, Minella For Value that ran poorly.

Nonetheless hopefully you at least covered the stake on that one with the successful place lay – showing yet again there are so many ways you can play a race on BETDAQ.

Navan’s flat card today has attracted huge fields – the smallest field size is 17 and in the opening race at 2.35 I’d be keen to take on the BETDAQ favourite at the time of writing Balmont Mast.

Again we’ll look for a cheeky lay in the place market. I’m not keen on the profile of this horse – he’s now gone nine races as a maiden and has twice been a beaten favourite. Furthermore he has been off the track for 145 days since finishing third at Dundalk.

No matter how negative you are about a horse – you still need to have plenty on your side when laying and in this race I would appear to have several runners capable of significant improvement from their early career efforts. This includes Judies Child who shaped well on her turf debut at Tipperary.

Another favourite I’m far from convinced about today is Hidden Universe for Weld in the 3.35. This one has top class bumper form to his name but was a beaten odds on favourite in this very same race a year ago and I think could be vulnerable again today. At around 2.93 we can look to a straight lay in the win market as well as a top-up lay in the place market as there is little downside.
