TWO OUT OF TWO FOR SHAMROCK: You can’t lose backing the two McCoy-ridden J P McManus runners, declared Shamrock yesterday. The result was two bets two winners, Ballyclough (WON evens) and a double with Favoured Nation (WON 11-8).
Ask me another. There’s a fair old handicap double of 11,000 euros at Fairyhouse today, which is worth a few punts yourself. What’s going to win? Ask Me another.
Askmeroe (3.25), in fact. With Tony Martin just striking form – he’s on two winners from his last three runners – and this a horse that loves Fairyhouse (last three races there 312).
Rain has come in time for this mud-lover, ridden by Robbie Moran, and running off a mark 25lb below his chase rating.
All his Fairyhouse success has come under Ruby Walsh, so you have to leave a pound, a punt or a euro or two, as a cover bet each way on the one Ruby seemingly prefers today, Dapper Dan.
I don’t know the reason why. Whether Ruby has told his grandmother, or his sister Kate, I know not. This Dapper Dan is a maiden and I can only say in typical Press language, ‘the booking of R Walsh seems significant’.
In the other leg of the handicap-hurdle double, Ruby rides Give Us A Hand, in a similar situation to Askmeroe: he switches from chasing where he’s 20lb higher than for hurdles, having set up a sequence over fences of five times consecutively in the frame, including a 15-lengths win in September.
Staying Article (1.25) has to be the day’s nap, with Edward O’Grady having made a fine start to the jumps season proper. This one won his Punchestown bumper with his head in his chest, then took his maiden hurdle in useful style.
