WEDNESDAY NIGHT AT DUNDALK: The course stage an additional meeting tonight with an eight race card getting underway at 5.50. Shamrock’s NAP runs in the second race at 6.20.
Backing long term maidens can often be the route to disaster but what happens when there are three in the same race? That’s the situation we are faced with in the 6.20 race when Cebuano, Diamond Daze and Opa Loca attempt to lose their maiden tags after a collective 17 starts between them without success despite a series of placed efforts.
One of them should surely win and I think it will be OPA LOCA. The filly has, on balance, the more solid form including a recent course and distance third and second place and she should therefore enjoy a fitness edge over her two rivals who have yet to race this year.
Cebuano is hard to figure out – good efforts over two miles in bumpers – you’d have to think that the mile trip here will be too short and Opa Loca’s stable mate Diamond Daze ran well when last seen out (over course and distance) when second to Gaiety Theatre but that one didn’t go on to frank the form in her two subsequent starts.
BETTERBETTERBETTER ran well on her debut at Leopardstown and can continue the bright start to the season for team O’Brien by taking the 7.50.
