PUNCHESTOWN NAP: SHAMROCK has a 50% strike-rate with his NAPS in 2020. Can he improve those stats with his best bet in the opener at Punchestown on Wednesday?

It was a day of shocks at Punchestown on Tuesday including the SHAMROCK NAP Lord Royal who was disappointing for me when second at odds-on. After such a spectacular debut I was perhaps asking for too much with him stepped up class but he never really threatened in the closing stages against 14/1 chance Run Wild Fred who always seemed to be holding him.

Hopefully better luck at Punchestown on Wednesday.

Unusually the best race on the card is also the first race on the card. The Grade 3 Quevega Mares Hurdle.

Appropriately, given the race title, Willie Mullins has won this five times in the last six years, and he looks to hold the key to this year’s renewal with the front two in the market.

However Laurina looks vulnerable at a short priced given her abject performance at Sandown three weeks ago and with form figures of PP now it’s very hard to get enthusiastic at a shade over evens on BETDAQ – she was put in at 1/3 in the Racing Post betting forecast and is on the drift big time with punters rightly questioning the current form of the mare and whether she can bounce back at this level.

A safer alternative might be Elfile whose second to Stormy Ireland at Leopardstown reads well and she holds Black Tears on that form.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Elfile (1.40 Punchestown)

2020 NAPS: 14/28 +53.75 (to a 10 unit daily level stake)
