DERBY DAY AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the Derby at the Curragh – bidding to improve on his current of naps – 18 from the last 30.
A bitterly disappointing run from the nap, Bean Feasa, yesterday who was slowly away from the stalls and didn’t seem interested in being a racehorse last night.
Dubai Duty Free Irish Derby day at the Curragh with the big race off at 5.20pm.
Harzand did me a huge NAPS favour when winning the Epsom Derby at 13/2 three weeks ago and I see no reason to oppose him to follow-up. Dermot Weld was nervously cautious when interviewed on ATR this week but on a pure form perspective he is really hard to get away from.
Ground and trip are both ideal and Harzand surely can only improve further given his win at Epsom was only his fourth career start and he was staying on strongly on the closing stages to beat the O’Brien pair US Army Ranger and Idaho.
US Army Ranger misses the re-match but Idaho renews rivalry. There’s still a question mark over his stamina in my book – and he has plenty to find on the form book in any case.
Red Verdon might be the place value in the race, he was only sixth at Epsom but had a horror run and could get into the money today with more luck.
