6/1 WINNING NAP: SHAMROCK landed a fantastic 6/1 WINNING NAP yesterday with Casla at the Curragh. It’s now three winning naps in a row with the Irish Derby today.
Casla landed the nap and only bet yesterday at 6/1 to bring up the hat-trick in style !!
Wednesday: Pocketfullofdreams (NAP) WON 9/10
Thursday: Pious Alexander (NAP) WON 8/13
Friday: Casla (NAP) WON 6/1
The Irish Derby has gone to an odds-on favourite in each of the last three years but the 2017 edition looks a lot more open.
The obvious starting point is the Epsom Derby last month when Wings Of Eagle sprung a 40/1 surprise with his late surge to beat Cliffs of Moher and Cracksman who re-opposes today and has a length to find on Wings Of Eagle who is now partnered by Ryan Moore.
It would be very easy and potentially dangerous to dismiss Wings Of Eagles win as a fluke given his SP and form leading into the race but the form could be strong given that fifth placed Benbati came out to win a Group 3 at Royal Ascot in the first real subsequent test.
I can see the argument for Cracksman turning around the form. It was only his third career start at Epsom so he is entitled to improve further and this course may not play to Wings Of Eagles strengths, given he was doing his best work at the end of the undulating Epsom circuit.
French form looks good this season and I’m sticking with the French Derby runner-up Waldgeist and he looks guaranteed to stay the extra trip and appreciate the give in the ground.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Waldgeist (5.20 Curragh)
