11/4 WINNING NAP FOR SHAMROCK: WESTHAVEN (NAP) WON 11/4 gave SHAMROCK a winning nap from his only selection yesterday. He now previews a classic day at the Curragh.
Westhaven won well last night to land the nap at 11/4.
Now for Irish Oaks Day at the Curragh and the two other Group races on the card.
4:40 Jebel Ali Racecourse & Stables Anglesey Stakes (Group 3) (2yo, Class 1, 6f 63y, 7 runners)
It’s hard to look beyond the chances of the Aidan O’Brien trained Oklahoma City who stepped up on his debut at Leopardstown to romp home at Naas last time out winning his maiden by no less than 13 lengths. It was only a four runner race and he was the 1/2 favourite so we can’t get too carried away but it was the style of his success that was particularly impressive. Breaking smartly and making all the running.
5:40 Invesco Pension Consultants Minstrel Stakes (Group 3) (3yo+, Class 1, 7f, 6 runners)
It could well be another for O’Brien with Darwin – another Naas winner. He made his debut for O’Brien then after formerly being trained by Todd Pletcher out in the States.
6:15 Darley Irish Oaks (Fillies’ Group 1) (3yo, Class 1, 1m 4f, 8 runners)
Alive Alive Oh has twice been pulled out because of the fast ground so that has to be a concern again today. She remains exciting but probably only with give in the ground. This is a superb renewal of the race bringing together the Oaks winner Talent and the Ribblesdale winner Riposte at the top of the BETDAQ market. It was good to soft at Epsom when Talent won the Oaks but she seems just at home on the firmer surface (won the Pretty Polly at Newmarket on good to firm) and is taken to win this for the Beckett team.
