TWO GRADED RACES AT NAAS: SHAMROCK looks at the two Graded races at Naas this afternoon where the going is soft to heavy.
The nap, A Shin Impala, ran well enough – but ultimately not good enough to finish second at Dundalk last night.
Hopefully better luck at Naas this afternoon when there are two Graded races on the card – both with small fields.
1:20 Limestone Lad Hurdle (Grade 3) (5yo+, Class 1, 2m 3f, 5 runners)
The favourites have a good recent record in this race and this looks at the mercy of the Willie Mullins trained Sempre Medici. The six-year-old proved he had a touch of class when finishing sixth to stable companion Wicklow Brave in the Vincent O’Brien County Handicap Hurdle last year and went on to win a Grade 2 easily at Fairyhouse. He also ran well last time out when runner-up to to Old Guard at Cheltenham and he should take advantage of the drop in class here. Aidan O’Brien runs Plinth but this one has shown his best form on better ground.
1:55 Woodlands Park 100 Club Novice Chase (Grade 2) (5yo+, Class 1, 3m, 3 runners)
Looks another Willie Mullins benefit – he has the first and second favourite and it’s only a three runner race now! Pont Alexandre, a Grade 1 winner over hurdles made a pleasing start to his chasing career when jumping well at Punchestown last month. He looks to have more class than stable companion Roi Des Francs.
Both are skinny odds, so for the nap I’m going with Lagostovegas in the opener at 12.45. She has shown promise in all three starts over hurdles and has been placed in each of them against some quite smart opposition. She deserves a first win today.
