BIRD TO FLY HOME: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the feature Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown this afternoon.
The Grade 2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle is the feature race on this afternoon’s Punchestown card and the leading protagonists both have questions to answer.
In the case of Mengli Khan it’s whether we see a reappearance of the quirkiness that caused him to run out in the Future Champions Novice Hurdle at Leopardstown over Christmas?
Certainly, if he puts in a clear round and reproduces his previous effort at Fairyhouse when winning the Grade 1 Royal Bond Novice Hurdle he should prove hard to beat.
But there is a major danger lurking in the shape of Getabird. The question with him is whether he will cope with the step-up in class?
He’s done little wrong so far though – unbeaten in three starts and a successful Punchestown hurdling debut last time out in heavy ground.
I’ll take him to continue the winning run at the expense of Mengli Khan who has a 3lb penalty to defy for winning his Grade 1.
