BIG WEEKEND OF RACING AT PUNCHESTOWN: Starts today and SHAMROCK’s best bet runs in the Risk Of Thunder Chase at 2.45.
Excellent weekend of racing at Punchestown with the stars on show on Sunday but a busy eight race card this afternoon for punters to get stuck into.
Stuck might be the operative word as conditions will be testing on the likely soft ground and the three mile Risk Of Thunder Chase at 2.45 a particular test of stamina.
There’s a few familiar names going to post for this. Cross-country specialist Big Shu and Henry de Bromhead’s Sizing Australia amongst them.
The trainer to watch in this race however is Enda Bolger who has monopolised recent renewals, winning five of the last six, including last year with Love Rory who attempts to go back to back.
Love Rory is one of three runners from Bolger’s yard but looks the pick of the trio and set to win again.
He loves ground on the testing side (also a winner on heavy ground at Punchestown) and it may well have been too fast for him last time out here when he finished third in a handicap.
Big Shu is respected but has a lengthy absence to overcome and he was beaten after reappearing after a lengthy absence last year.
Sizing Australia likes any going and whilst today should be a lot more suitable than the two mile hurdle he ran over last time he, like his stable companion Sizing Europe, might be finding age is catching up.
