Leading Light is a little shorter than I hoped for but is hard to get away from. The Aidan O’Brien trained runner is already the top-rated in the race but is also capable of further improvement – especially when stepped up to a mile and a half. However, he looked smart over this trip too on his seasonal reappearance when slamming Dibayani by 7 lengths with a further 9 lengths back to the third. He made all the running that day and similar tactics are likely to be deployed today.

3:20 Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f 110y, 4 runners)
It’s great to have Camelot back as a four-year-old after his life threatening bout of colic. He came agonisingly close to winning the Triple Crown last season and then ran disappointingly in the Arc on heavy ground and at the end of a long and successful season. He wasn’t overly impressive when landing the odds here on his reappearance but that should have blown the cobwebs away and he can account for Al Kazeem who will be no pushover after his Group 3 win at Sandown last time out.

3:55 Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas (Fillies’ Group 1) (3yo, Class 1, 1m, 16 runners)
It’s unoriginal but I can’t really get away from Just The Judge who was unbeaten before running an excellent second to Sky Lantern in the Newmarket equivalent. I’ve looked closely at both Big Break and Viztoria but the ground might ride fast for both these promising fillies. Big Break has also been dealt a bad break with stall 16.
