1000 GUINEAS DAY AT THE CURRAGH: SHAMROCK has bets in all three of the Group races on the card with his NAP in the big race itself – due off at 3.55.
A King was crowned yesterday at the Curragh. Can we find the Queen of the Curragh this afternoon? Unfortunately My Titania is out of the big race but it still leaves a really competitive Classic, one of three Group races on the Sunday card at the Curragh.
2:45 Airlie Stud Gallinule Stakes (Group 3) (3yo, Class 1, 1m 2f, 7 runners)
Just as you start to think Aidan O’Brien has turned the corner this season you run into another dead end. It’s hard to back any of his runners with any degree of confidence at the moment and there were no wins from his nine runners at the track yesterday. That said, he has an exceptionally strong grip on this race with his three runners and bids to win this for the 8th time from the last 9. Adelaide is the better fancied of his trio. He impressed when making a winning debut at Leopardstown and than ran a cracker at Longchamp when stepped up in class to a Group 2 and finished second. He’s currently 2.07 on BETDAQ and to my mind that looks a little short against a stack of potential improvers. I’d rather play at 6 on Edelmira who bolted home to win her maiden at Tipperary. It’s impossible to gauge what that form is worth but the runner-up has won since and Edelmira can give the colts a good run for their money
3:20 Tattersalls Gold Cup (Group 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 1m 2f 110y, 8 runners)
Again, prices dictate my betting on BETDAQ. It looks a match between Magician and Noble Mission and preference is for the latter who is trained by Lady Cecil. He comes here on the back of a smooth success in the Group 3 Huxley Stakes at Chester and had previously won a Group 3 at Sandown by nine lengths. Magician won the Breeders’ Cup Turf last season but hardly looked impressive when only scraping home at 2/13 last time out here at the Curragh to win the Mooresbridge Stakes.
3:55 Etihad Airways Irish 1,000 Guineas (Fillies’ Group 1) (3yo, Class 1, 1m, 11 runners)
We’ll go for the tried and tested method! Tested could be the answer here for the in form stable of Dermot Weld. She is the only unbeaten filly in the 11 strong field having made a winning debut here in September and winning well on her reappearance this season at Gowran Park. It is, of course, a huge leap in class but the top half of the field here already look to have their limitations exposed and I think the race will be won by one of the lighter raced fillies. One of the biggest dangers may indeed come from Tested’s stablemate, Vote Often, who landed a 10/1 WINNING NAP for me when getting home by a head to win the Park Express Stakes, a Group 3, here at the Curragh last time out.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Tested (3.55 Curragh)
NEXT BEST: Edelmira (2.45 Curragh)
WIN: Noble Mission (3.20 Curragh)
