NOW THREE NAPS IN A ROW 7/4, 5/4, EVENS: SHAMROCK ended Punchestown on a high despite two non runners. He had 4 winning races from 6 including an ODDS ON place lay and winning nap with Diakali.
No Punchestown today? I was just beginning to warm up…..
The scorecard looked a lot better of the final day with success in four of the six races we had bets in – the day got off to the best possible start with a place lay of Outlaw Pete who was out of the frame in the opener at around 1.78.
2.30 Outlaw Pete (PLACE LAY) SUCCESS – UNPLACED 1.78 ON PLACE MARKET
3.10 Aupcharlie (LAY) SUCCESS – UNPLACED 6/4
3.45 My Murphy (WIN) lost
4.25 Glens Melody (PLACE) WON 7/2
5.00 Diakali (NAP) (WIN) WON EVENS
5.35 Byerley Babe (WIN and PLACE) NON RUNNER
6.10 Jerusalem Bells (WIN and PLACE) NON RUNNER
6.40 Collingwood (WIN and PLACE) lost
Diakali’s success means the run of NAPS is now three in a row. The sequence started on Tuesday but we were hit by withdrawn horses on Wednesday and Thursday.
Tuesday: MOYLE PARK (NAP) WON 7/4
Friday: UN DE SCEAUX (NAP) WON 5/4
Saturday: DIAKALI (NAP WON EVENS
So there’s the pressure of a sequence today as we head back to the flat at Gowran Park. Again the going is testing – forecast is soft to heavy.
The nap comes in the 5.10 – a race which looks a match between the four-year-old An Saincheann trained by Jim Bolger and the three-year-old Sharp Crisp Air trained by Dermot Weld (editor: what, no runner for Willie Mullins !)
The stats of this race are interesting – three-year-olds have won ALL six runnings and Dermot Weld has won the last two renewals.
I was leaning towards Sharp Crisp Air anyway – but that really seals it.
She was a creditable third on debut at Leopardstown after finding trouble in running (despite a field of five!) and should know plenty more about the game.
An Saincheann has had three starts but I feel it would be dangerous to take her Listed race third to Famous Name (who was a 1/5 favourite) too literally.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Sharp Crisp Air (5.10 Gowran Park)
