SHAMROCK’S ON A RECOVERY MISSION: After a disappointing day at Leopardstown, SHAMROCK goes all-weather racing at Dundalk this afternoon.

I couldn’t have got Leopardstown more wrong even if I knew the results in advance.

The writing was on the wall from the first Group race at 5.15 when Free Eagle’s bubble was well and truly busted by Australia.

It went from bad to worse when the lay, The United States won, and then I was foiled by Aidan O’Brien again when Kingsbarns suffered a minor injury in the Irish Champion Stakes.

Joseph O’Brien said he was hoping that Kingsbarns had suffered only a minor problem.

He said: “When he met the road, he took a bit of a bad step and lost his action. He wasn’t too bad pulling up and hopefully he’s just given himself a little bit of a bang.”

I need to do better today and rely on Diyala in the long distance handicap at 3.55.

She proved her current well-being with an easy six length win at Musselburgh on Tuesday, relishing the step-up in trip, and should be able to strike again and defy her penalty.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Diyala (3.55 Dundalk)
