FLAT SEASON OPEN FOR BUSINESS AT THE CURRAGH: Just two sleeps after the Cheltenham Festival the flat season takes centre stage with the start of the turf season at the Curragh.
Tally Ho jumps (well at least until Punchestown and Aintree) but for the time being it’s all eyes on the flat when 13 youngsters will line up for the Tally Ho Stud European Breeders Fund Maiden at 2.10pm to signal the start of the flat season at the Curragh.
Jim Bolger can usually be relied on in the opener, he runs Intensely Focussed this year but in early trading it’s been the Dermot Weld trained filly Tilly Trotter who has attracted the most interest in the BETDAQ market. A nice winner for the headline writers…. Tilly Tally !
I’ll save my bets for the two big races on the card.
In the first Group race of the season – the Park Express Stakes at 3.50pm I’m firstly hoping that there will be no repeat of the 100-1 shock in the race last year when Ramone won !!
Trying to second guess what stage Aidan O’Brien is with his horses is dangerous and I’m not sure we can be too reliant upon Ivanovich Gorbatov’s Triumph Hurdle success as a guide !!
He saddles Fluff here who looked impressive when making a winning debut at Navan last April but has been off the track since.
Devonshire sets a fair standard and is the percentage call for me. She finished third in the Irish 1,000 Guineas here last season and the going should very much be in her favour.
In the Irish Lincolnshire at 4.55pm I thought Aussie Valentine looked of interest win and place. He finished a length second to Onenightidreamed in this last year and must have a good chance of turning that form around with a 7lb pull and the benefit of a recent run at Dundalk.
