GOWRAN PARK ON SUNDAY: Tough punting card this afternoon with SHAMROCK heading to the featured Listed race for his nap of the day.
A fair enough run from the NAP Altesse yesterday who finished second at 5/1 but ultimately she was no match for the favourite Bondi Beach.
Gowan Park starts with a real headache for punters. A 19 runner maiden and the age old dilemma of going with experience or the fancy breeding credentials of a debutant?
DAQMAN made a case for the newcomer Landikusic so I will keep an eye on that one but save the SHAMROCK Euro’s for a punt later on in the afternoon.
The feature race on the card is the Listed Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes at 3.40.
The eight fillies bring a wealth of experience to the table – except for one. Discipline takes a dramatic step up in class after winning a five runner maiden race on debut here, just two weeks ago, when the ground was heavy (it’s forecast to be good, good to yielding today).
I’ll take a chance with her following up today. The Dermot Weld trained fully looked right out of the top drawer making all the running and winning in really impressive fashion.
I know this is harder, longer, different ground but she did look exceptional.
The biggest danger is likely to come from Bocca Baciata who may well have needed the race when fourth to Zhokova on her seasonal reappearance in the Alleged Stakes at the Curragh.
