LEOPARDSTOWN TRIALS DAY: Three key trial races in a row at Leopardstown this afternoon. Aidan O’Brien has the hot favourite in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at 3.25pm.
A good days racing ahead at Leopardstown which should furnish plenty of classic clues.
Aidan O’Brien has three of the seven runners in the Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial Stakes at 3.25pm including the red hot favourite Broome who has 9lb and upwards on the rest of the field – based on official ratings.
He was devastating when winning the Ballysax here last month by eight lengths from stable companion Sovereign (runs again here) and it’s hard to see what can beat him on that form, the only slight cause for concern would be that the ground will be a little quicker today.
The other two Group races are much more competitive betting wise.
In the Derrinstown Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial at 2.50pm I like the look of Hamariyna (trained by Mick Halford, pictured) who hasn’t done much wrong in two starts. She won a maiden at Tipperary this season beating Fancy Feat who has won since.
It’s a step up in class but it doesn’t look the toughest Group race on paper and Hamariyna could land this, given she’s likely to improve again.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Hamariyna (2.50 Leopardstown)
