SHAMROCK NAP BLOSSOMS AGAIN: SHAMROCK landed his first NAP of February with Honeysuckle WON 8/11 at Leopardstown yesterday. Now for day two of the Dublin Racing Festival.
It was a dramatic finish to the Irish Champion Hurdle yesterday with Honeysuckle overcoming a sloppy jump at the last to maintain her unbeaten record and land the NAP on what turned out to be a great day for both Henry De Bromhead and Rachael Blackmore.
Day two of the Dublin Racing Festival today and so far at least not many non runners which blighted the same card 12 months ago – 22 due to the going.
Gordon Elliott was particularly vocal about the ground on Saturday and the course have continued to water overnight to maintain yielding ground.
Four more Grade 1 highlights to look forward to, including the Irish Gold Cup at 3.30pm. The race went to Willie Mullins last year with Bellshill but by his own exceptional standards his strike-rate has been off in this feature with just one of the last six winners.
The race also isn’t immune to throwing up a shock winner as we saw in 2018 with Edwulf (33/1) and 2016 with Carlingford Lough going off at 20/1 despite also winning the race the previous year!
Belshill will be a similar price this year as he also attempts to go back to back but he was well below his best in the Savills Chase which is the key form race to look at.
Mullins also has the favourite here with Kemboy who was fourth to Delta Work in the Savills Chase where Presenting Percy was fifth. Both Kemboy and Presenting Percy should improve for their runs there but I wouldn’t want to be taking short prices about either reversing form with Delta Work.
The value play for me is Chris’s Dream – even more so after Henry De Bromhead’s stellar day yesterday. He’s up in class after his runaway win in the Ladbrokes Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan but could easily get into the places at least.
For the purposes of the NAPS record it’s 0.5 points each way.
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Chris’s Dream 0.5 points each-way (3.30 Leopardstown)
2020 NAPS: 11/21 +4.28 (to a 1 unit daily level stake)
