LISTOWEL NAP ON SUNDAY: SHAMROCK’S NAP on Sunday runs in the maiden at Listowel at 3.30pm.
No joy in the Derby on Saturday with Sir Dragonet who finished fifth in what turned out to be a dramatic finish and gave Aidan O’Brien his seventh win in the classic with Anthony Van Dyke.
Back to more modest action on Sunday with two cards at Kilbeggan and Listowel.
The best bet of the day looks to be at Listowel in the 3:30 race where the Dermot Weld trained Tranchee should outclass his seven rivals.
The trainer won the same race last year and Tranchee has run well in two starts so far, firstly at Naas on debut when 3rd to Magna Grecia – form which has clearly taken a huge boost since – and last time out at Cork he finished fifth when going off favourite but wasn’t beaten far and this race looks there for the taking.
The obvious danger is Tham Luang who ran a much better race last time out when 2nd to Galtee Mist but it came on slightly softer ground than he will encounter this afternoon.
The Mick Halford trained Defining Battle should improve for being stepped up in distance having finished fourth over seven furlongs at Cork last time out.
