GROUP ACTION ON NAAS CURTAIN-RAISER: SHAMROCK previews the first Group race of the new season – the Lodge Park Stud E.B.F. Park Express Stakes at Naas this afternoon.
With the Curragh being refurbished, Naas gets the honour of staging the first flat card of the new season including the Group 3 Lodge Park Stud E.B.F. Park Express Stakes.
Aidan O’Brien struck early on the card with Alphabet in the maiden – scorching home by five and half lengths and whilst it would be dangerous to make too many assumptions on a sample size of one – it’s quite possible his string might be more forward than normal this season.
That’s good news if, like me, you fancy Somehow in the first Group race of the season. She is rated a full stone clear of her nearest rivals and should be able to give the weight away.
In short, she is better than Group 3 class. She finished fourth and fifth in the Epsom and Irish Oaks respectively and finished last season with a facile seven length success in a Group 3 at the Curragh on yielding ground – she is proven on today’s softer surface too.
