CORK AND NAAS: Sunday action on both codes on Sunday. It’s Cork Grand National Day and there is also a card on the flat at Naas.

The curtain comes down on the flat season at Naas today and it goes out with a bang rather than a whimper which seems appropriate enough for the 5th November.

Rather than a low grade handicap to conclude the card the feature race is also the final race – a Listed race over a mile and half entitled, what else, the Finale Stakes.

I’ve waited a long time to see Tocco D’amore make her second start after she went into my (and countless others) notebooks after a hugely impressive winning debut here at Naas in April when storming home to win by six lengths.

The runner-up has gone on to prove himself a good horse (winning the Ulster Derby) and the form looks strong.   Tocco D’amore certainly looks up to this grade on the limited evidence we have seen so far.

The break in-between shouldn’t be a concern and Dermot Weld certainly wouldn’t be risking her at the very end of the season if she wasn’t ready to do herself justice and I hope that patience will be rewarded and she preserves her unbeaten record.

Mustajeer might be the danger after an easy handicap win here last time over 1m 2f where he stayed on well in the closing stages.

I’ll have a small win and place on my old friend Arkwrisht in the Cork Grand National. He was a faller in the Ladbrokes Munster National Handicap Chase at Limerick but previously showed he can handle the hustle and bustle of a big runner staying chase when runner-up to Potters Point in the Kerry National Handicap Chase at Listowel.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Tocco D’amore (4.00 Naas)
NEXT BEST: Arkwrisht (3.15 Cork)
