BELLS RINGING AT FAIRYHOUSE: SHAMROCK landed a winning nap from his only bet on Saturday – Bellshill (NAP) WON 8/13 in the featured Bobbyjo Chase.
It’s not often you can say you were pleasantly surprised by an SP of 8/13 but that was very much the case with Bellshill in the Bobbyjo Chase at Fairyhouse yesterday.
Like the market, I had the race as a match and when Mala Beach became a non runner I fully expected Bellshill’s price to become prohibitive.
In the end though 8/13 was fair enough and he won well after a lengthy absence to continue the great record of Willie Mullins in the race.
Sunday action in Ireland comes from Naas and it’s a busy card with eight races including two Graded races.
There’s a decent looking Grade 2 novice hurdle at 3.10pm in which Gordon Elliott holds the trump cards with his three runners.
Hardline was placed third in two Grade 1’s but beaten a long way and this is much more his level but he might struggle to cope with stable companion Cartwright who had plenty of class on the flat when a multiple winner with Sir Mark Prescott and seems to have transferred that ability over hurdles too, judged by his impressive maiden hurdle win over course and distance last time out.
Speak Easy is another who found Grade 1 company too strong but can hardly be dismissed on only his third start under rules.
