NAVAN SUNDAY ACTION: SHAMROCK looks at the Navan card on Sunday when Shaneshill is the star attraction.

Feature race on Sunday is the Navan Novice Hurdle at 12.55 in which the Willie Mullins trained Shaneshill picks himself on the formbook but the question is whether the 1.5 on BETDAQ represents value.

The concern would have to be his jumping, not his ability. He was far from foot perfect on his jumping debut at Fairyhouse making at least four errors – but they weren’t bad enough to halt his momentum and in the end he won easily as his 1/5 starting price indicated. His form in bumpers was exceptional, winning three and finishing second to Silver Concorde in the Champion Bumper at the Cheltenham Festival – form which he reversed in the Punchestown equivalent.

There’s no reason to think why his novice errors will be repeated today and he is sure to have learnt a lot from that first run but at today’s prices, stepping up in grade where any mistakes might be penalised more, I’m a watcher not a player.

Mullins has another hotpot running in the closing bumper. Bordini who has been well backed on BETDAQ so far today and looks set to follow up his easy win at Punchestown last time out when he made all the running.
