CORK and NAAS: Both race this afternoon and SHAMROCK’s best bet of the day is on the flat at Naas.
What an incredible prospect Forgotten Rules looks for Dermot Weld.
He lit up Champions Day in the first race yesterday with a stunning success in the Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup on only his third racecourse appearance and we still have no idea on how good he could turn out to be.
We knew he was exciting judged on runaway wins in a bumper at Punchestown and then on the flat at Galway but to do what he did yesterday against previous Gold Cup and St Leger winners was incredible.
After the race Weld said: “This has been a lucky meeting for me. I won this race with Rite Of Passage a few years ago and this is a pretty similar horse. I knew when he beat a good mare (Shu Lewis) at Galway that this was the race for him. I love training these stayers and hopefully he can become another Rite Of Passage. His target will be the Gold Cup next year, provided there is a bit of ease in the ground.”
It’s no surprise to see Ladbrokes install Forgotten Rules as clear favourite for next season’s Ascot Gold Cup.
Weld may also have the answer to today’s competitive Clodovil E.B.F. Garnet Stakes – a Listed race for fillies at Naas (3.15).
I’m Yours is only lightly raced but proved she was up to this level when comfortably winning a similar event at Gowran Park last time out.
