5/1 WINNING NAP BRINGS UP NAPS HAT-TRICK: SHAMROCK has hit form at just the right time for the Punchestown Festival. His NAP on Thursday MINELLA INDO (NAP) WON 5/1.

It’s now three NAPS in a row. Minella Indo landed Wednesday’s NAP at a fantastic 5/1 to bring up the hat-trick.

Mon: URBAN BEAT (NAP) WON 9/4
Tue: KLASSICAL DREAM (NAP) WON 8/13
Wed: MINELLA INDO (NAP) WON 5/1

As good as the racing was on Wednesday, there was no doubt the headline story of the day. Ruby Walsh retiring after another masterful ride onboard Kemboy to win the Punchestown Gold Cup.

The 39-year-old retires having ridden over 2,500 winners, including more Cheltenham Festival successes to his name than any other jockey and built up fantastic relationships with equine superstars Hurricane Fly and the dual Cheltenham Gold Cup winner Kauto Star.

Walsh won the Grand National with Papillon, trained by his father, Ted, in 2000 and then Hedgehunter in 2005.

He retires at the top of his game and good luck to him with all his future ventures.

Two Grade 1 races at Punchestown today.

In the Ladbrokes Champion Stayers Hurdle at 5.30pm I thought Not Many Left had each-way claims but for the nap I’m sticking with the impressive Arkle winner Duc Des Genievres who can land the Grade 1 Ryanair Novice Chase.

He goes head to head with JLT winner Defi Du Seuil in what should be a fascinating race but I just favour Duc Des Genievres who seems to be still improving.

SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Duc Des Genievres (6.40 Punchestown)
EACH-WAY BET: Not Many Left (5.30 Punchestown)
