SHAMROCK HAD A 10/1 WINNING NAP ON MONDAY THIS WEEK: And returns today to look ahead to the Clonmel flat card which gets underway at 5.15pm and the Chester Vase.
The ground is soft at Clonmel for their evening meeting with further showers expected today.
The BETDAQ market is struggling to split Prussian Eagle and Stirabout in the median auction maiden at 5.50 and both have had plenty of chances.
The race looks between the pair, as the betting tells you, and my preference is for Stirabout. Jim Bolger has opted to get him out again quickly after his best effort to date when third (beaten two necks) behind Ashtaroth at Gowran Park on Sunday.
He was used as a pacemaker in the Group 3 Ballysax Stakes at Navan and front running tactics are again likely in this much softer contest.
Main rival Prussian Eagle showed his best form to date last time out when runner-up to Rathealy over seven furlongs (pair finished well clear) in a Gowran Park handicap. However, I would be just a little concerned about his ability to cope with the step-up to this 1m 2f trip today.
Celtic Artisan didn’t run too badly when fourth on debut at Dundalk but was beaten a fair way. Even so, he looks best of the remainder in the race but the nap must land on Stirabout.
In the Chester Vase Aidan O’Brien saddles two Carlo Bugatti and Orchestra as he bids to train the winner again. Ruler Of The World was the wide margin winner of this last year for O’Brien before going on to win the Epsom Derby.
Carlo Bugatti ran well enough in the Ballysax when fourth on reappearance but I prefer Ryan Moore (who was onboard Ruler Of The World last year) and Orchestra who is lightly raced but might just have the better scope of the pair as a three-year-old
SHAMROCK’S BETS:
NAP: Stirabout (5.50 Clonmel)
NEXT BEST: Orchestra (2.45 Chester)
