SHAMROCK LANDS 100/30 WINNING NAP WITH DUNTLE: SHAMROCK notched up three winning races at Royal Ascot on Wednesday after his four-strike on Tuesday. As well as Duntle he recommended GALE FORCE TEN (WON 9/2) in the opener and a successful place lay on Bye Bye Birdie.

What a week so far it’s been for Irish trained horses at Royal Ascot.

We move onto Gold Cup day and I’m forecasting no let up in the siuccess for the Irish runners.

2:30 Norfolk Stakes (Group 2) (2yo, Class 1, 5f, 14 runners)

Just the one Irish representative here but he’s the solid favourite on BETDAQ – COACH HOUSE trained by Aidan O’Brien.

He looks to have an outstanding chance of starting the meeting with an Irish trained winner for the third consecutive day. He comes here on a hat-trick having won a Listed race in good style at the Curragh last time out when he proved he was equally as adept on the faster ground than he had already proven on the softer surface. There are so many likely improvers here (virtually the whole field) but he sets a good standard for them to aim at.

SELECTION: Coach House (WIN)

3:05 Ribblesdale Stakes (Fillies’ Group 2) (3yo, Class 1, 1m 4f, 12 runners)

I’m bidding for my third consecutive NAP of the week today and the vote has to go to ALIVE ALIVE OH who is the horse I have been most looking forward to seeing all week.

She was won her last two starts by an aggregate of over 10 lengths and looked particularly useful when stepped up in trip to 1m 2f and bolting home in a Listed race at Navan last time out.

She will need to improve again to win this Group 2 and again handle a step up in trip but there is every chance she will and the defection of Oaks third The Lark makes the job on paper easier.

SELECTION: Alive Alive Oh (WIN, NAP)

3:45 Gold Cup (British Champions Series) (Group 1) (4yo+, Class 1, 2m 4f, 18 runners)

A wide open renewal of the great race with a strong Irish challenge. 2010 winner Rite Of Passage has only been seen twice since then and is now 243 days off the track. He is a fragile horse and it would be a training miracle if Dermot Weld could get him back to win this. At BETDAQ odds of over 50/1 I think the layers are getting a little over generous on EL SALVADOR – for Aidan and Joseph O’Brien. Given Aidan O’Brien has trained five of the last seven winners it seems remarkable that his runner this year can be allowed to go off at such a price – particularly as it’s such a wide open renewal. Granted El Salvador has a lot to prove – not least his ability over the trip and he has had a couple of poor runs recently. But on the plus side he is a horse capable of further improvement and could relish the stamina test.

SELECTION: El Salvador (WIN and PLACE)

4:25 Britannia Stakes (Heritage Handicap) (Str) (3yo, Class 2, 1m, 30 runners)

Such a competitive race in which the Mick Halford trained WON DIAMOND looks of interest win and place at around 44 on BETDAQ. He holds Group race entries in Ireland. He won his maiden in nice style at the Curragh and is still improving.

SELECTION: Won Diamond (WIN and PLACE)

5:00 Tercentenary Stakes (Formerly The Hampton Court Stakes) (Group 3) (3yo, Class 1, 1m 2f, 12 runners)

This could easily be another for Aidan O’Brien with INDIAN CHIEF who ran a cracker in the Dante Stakes at York – the form of which has taken a massive subsequent boost with Libertarian’s run in the Derby and Trading Leather’s Listed race success.

SELECTION: Indian Chief (WIN)

5:35 King George V Stakes (Handicap) (3yo, Class 2, 1m 4f, 19 runners)

No Irish interest. Mark Johnston took up all the entries !!

NO SELECTION
