SHAMROCK AT LEOPARDSTOWN: SHAMROCK looks ahead to the Leopardstown card tonight which features the Group 3 Desmond Stakes at 7.25.
Just the five runners are set to go to post for the Group 3 Desmond Stakes at Leopardstown tonight and the race features a warm odds-on favourite on BETDAQ in the shape of Cougar Mountain.
Aidan O’Brien’s four-year-old is comfortably the best horse in the race on official ratings but it doesn’t sit well with me backing him at odds-on.
For me, he is a little disappointing. He made a winning debut at Naas but has failed to win in eight subsequent starts – although in fairness has been tried at the highest level including last time out in the Group 1 Sussex Stakes when fifth to Solow.
Despite the win of older horses in the last two runnings of this – over a longer sample the three-year-olds have a good record in this event so Convergence, Raydara and Tamadhor coupled are likely to give the favourite something to think about.
For the nap I’m keeping the faith with Peace Mission who made all to land a winning nap for the column last month – he can handle the step up in class in the 5.55 at Leopardstown.
