MONARCH FLIES HOME: SHAMROCK landed a winning nap on Wednesday with MONARCH (NAP) WON 8/11.
Monarch landed the nap, in the end, with plenty in hand. There was plenty of drama in the closing stages however when he veered badly left towards the rail but once straightened out got the job done well. More inexperience than anything else and I can see him winning again in better company.
Big night of flat action at Sundown Park with their Brigadier Gerard meeting and whilst there is no Irish interest in the feature – Willie Mullins has the warm favourite for the Group 3 Henry II Stakes at 7.05pm with Max Dynamite.
This will be the six-year-olds first run since his stunning second to outsider Prince Of Penzance in the Melbourne Cup in November and at least we can sure that the hop across the Irish Sea to Esher won’t phase him !!
His previous run was also in the UK when he won the Group 2 Lonsdale Cup over pretty much an identical trip to tonight.
He is relatively lightly raced on the flat and should be tuned up for this, which is a good prize in its own right. He has done most of his racing with give in the ground but proved in Melbourne (good) he is equally as effective – although with some sunshine today it could end up being the quickest ground he has encountered tonight.
Burmese will like the fast ground and looks the biggest danger. He has the benefit of a run under his belt and a good one at that. He finished fifth to Mizzou in the Group 3 Sagaro Stakes at Ascot but was only beaten around two lengths.
