LADBROKES WORLD HURDLE: SHAMROCK’S bet of the week comes in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle – the feature race on day three of the Festival.
I’m enjoying the racing but not so much the results so far this week.
For the second day running I had high hopes after getting the first winner but it all went downhill after that 🙁 Don Cossack falling spiralled the day down, although I did get something back with a place return from Bayan who was a creditable third to Whisper in the Coral Cup.
Just the one bet today – enough of this spreading the money all over the place – I’m going back to my normal modus operandi – one daily NAP.
It’s my bet of the week – in what I think is the race of the week – the Ladbrokes World Hurdle at 3.20.
Regular readers will know how much of an Annie Power fan I am and I’m nailing my colours to her mast today in the big race.
It’s the match of the week – but I don’t think it’s necessarily that simple. More Of That has sound place claims in my book.
What I don’t understand is that many people are focussing on whether Big Buck’s can improve for his reappearance third in the Cleeve Hurdle but I think the bigger key to the race is whether you believe Annie Power will stay. If you believe, as I do, the answer to that is yes – then you have to play.
Big Buck’s is an absolute superstar and I wish him well – but like all of us he is getting older and I fear that the Cleeve form might be as good as he is. In the same way in many ways that age has caught up with Hurricane Fly.
I fail to believe that Paul Nicholls wouldn’t have had him anything other than 100% for his comeback run. Big Buck’s, after all, had a winning run of 18, and his first defeat over hurdles was a shock and disappointment in equal proportions.
Paul Nicholls’ form this week is also a concern.
Annie Power receives, what could prove a crucial 7lb mares allowance, and isn’t a natural to get the trip on breeding and she is also speedy enough. So much so that the Champion Hurdle was a seriously considered option.
But there’s one important over-riding factor here. And that’s the trainer Willie Mullins. He is a genius and if he had any doubts he wouldn’t have opted for this route and that’s good enough for me. Mullins doesn’t make many mistakes at Cheltenham and Annie Power’s first attempt at three miles can be a successful one.
