NAP NARROWLY BEATEN: SHAMROCK’s nap and only bet of the day yesterday Devonshire was second at 11/4, beaten a neck, in the Vincent O’Brien Ruby stakes at Killarney. Now for the big race at York on Thursday.
Close call with the nap Devonshire yesterday.
Disappointing to see Gleneagles pulled out but that became an increasingly predictable scenario with the rain at York. With Golden Horn getting beaten too by shock winner Arabian Queen it really was a case of what might of been.
A good Irish challenge today for the Darley Yorkshire Oaks at 3.40 on ground that remains good to soft.
Aidan O’Brien, who won the race last year with Tapestry, runs two – Easter and Outstanding but the stronger Irish challenge looks to lie elsewhere.
The Jessie Harrington trained Jack Naylor renews rivalry with Covert Love who beat her into second in the Darley Irish Oaks at the Curragh on good to yielding ground and I see no obvious reason why that form should be turned around. Close behind in third that day was the David Wachman trained Curvy who also has something to find but is tried in a visor for the first time today.
The underfoot conditions will suit Jim Bolger’s Pleascach who won a Group 3 on soft ground at Naas before going on to win the Irish 1,000 Guineas.
Although beaten by Curvy in the Ribblesdale at Royal Ascot that came on faster ground and she proved that day she gets this 1m 4f trip.
At around 9 on BETDAQ she looks an excellent win and place call.
