DANTE STAKES LOOKS TOUGH: For the two Irish raiders from Aidan O’Brien’s stable. SHAMROCK switches to Tipperary for his NAP of the day.
Aidan O’Brien last won the Dante Stakes in 2010 with Cape Bianco and relies on Black Sea and Deauville this year.
Both are relatively exposed, especially in contrast to the Sir Michael Stoute trained favourite Midterm who has won both his starts in the style of a very good horse.
Deauville (Ryan Moore) looks the number one hope for O’Brien – he won his first two starts as a two-year-old at Listowel on debut and then a Group 3 at Leopardstown.
He was found wanting at the top level though – beaten into second at Newmarket in the Royal Lodge Stakes and then only fifth of seven at Doncaster in the Group 1 Racing Post Trophy.
Both the O’Brien horses were disappointing here yesterday. Dick Whittington, my pick, 7th of 12 and then Best In The World finished stone last in the Musidora behind the super impressive So Mi Dar (DAQMAN’s GOLD BANKER).
I’m switching back home for tonight’s nap and Don’t Kick Nor Bite in the opener at Tipperary (4.40pm) looks fairly solid.
She was an excellent fourth to Augusta Kate in the mares flat race – a Listed event at the Punchestown Festival and looks set for a winning start over hurdles. She is already a PTP winner so I’m not overly concerned about the jumping aspect.
