NICHOLS CANYON OUT FOR REVENGE: Nichols Canyon is again set to do battle with stable companion Annie Power in the Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle at Aintree on April 7 after finishing third to the mare at Cheltenham in the Champion Hurdle a week ago.

Seconds out…. round two.

The Champion Hurdle 1st and 3rd are set to renew rivalry at Aintree in the Doom Bar Aintree Hurdle.

There were four and a half lengths and a head between the pair at Cheltenham a week ago in the Champion Hurdle and the duo could well do battle over a two and a half mile trip at Aintree.

Owner Graham Wylie said of his Nichols Canyon: “His next trip could be to Aintree for the two-and-a-half mile hurdle, because he won the two-and-a-half-mile novice hurdle there last year, and then I think we might just try him in the three-mile race at Punchestown just to see if he gets the trip.”

Of the potential clash again with Annie Power Wylie said: “Willie hasn’t told me. All that he has said is that he will see how the horse is in the next 10 days – whether Annie goes there or not, I don’t know. What I really want is just to see how he gets on over the longer trip because I’d love to get him to the World Hurdle.”

The Dermot Weld trained Fascinating Rock is expected to make his seasonal reappearance in the Mooresbridge Stakes at the Curragh ahead of another crack at the Tattersalls Gold Cup. It was the same path he followed last season – winning the Mooresbridge before finishing second to Al Kazeem in the Gold Cup.
