JOHN F KENNEDY APPEARS TO BE THE ‘CHOSEN ONE’: Aidan O’Brien’s John F Kennedy has shortened on BETDAQ’s ante-post market for the Epsom Derby.
If you thought Willie Mullins had a strong hand at Cheltenham that’s nothing compared with the stranglehold that Aidan O’Brien has on the Epsom Derby at this early stage.
The Ballydoyle trainer incredibly has seven of the top eight in the ante-post betting but after the mass Curragh post-race workout on Sunday it was John F Kennedy that assumed pole position.
Despite being beaten at odds-on on his debut at Leopardstown, John F Kennedy went on to win a Curragh maiden and was then stepped up in class to win the Group 3 John Deere at Leopardstown over a mile.
He will now follow the same path (Ballysax Stakes and Derrinstown Stud Derby Trial) as Galileo and High Chaparral in his attempt to win at Epsom in June.
He was partnered by Ryan Moore in Sunday’s workout who looks set to be used more frequently by O’Brien in light of the news that son Joseph is struggling with weight.
O’Brien told At The Races: “We’ve a good relationship with Ryan and we always have. We used Ryan more last year than we did the year before and hopefully it will be that way again this year – we’ll use him more this year than we did last year”.
